Gorges
Lodge
Gorges Lodge, is a retreat away from the
buzz and rush of the busy Victoria Falls village. It's in
a unique position atop of, and overhangs, the escarpment of
the Zambezi River, flowing 864 ft beneath it. It's a few miles
from Victoria Falls, so if you want a bit of action, it's
a short (but lengthy) drive to the frenetic pace of the tourist
town. It is far enough to avoid over-friendly touristy happy
snappy types invading your space. For the most part, our guests
come to Gorges to get away, getaway, getaway
and be
far away, from pace.
It's Private
Gorges'
is a great place for weddings or Honeymooners because it is
private; ten stone lodges lie ten miles from Victoria Falls
& lies overlooking the Great Zambezi River, close on a
thousand feet below. All rooms are apart, in an idyllic garden
forest with clear views of the River. One may disappear for
an entire week and not be noticed if that's your purpose.
It's wonderful for family get together occasions and small
business conferences too (10 couples only).
Au
Naturelle
Gorges'
is a fairyland of riverine vegetation reminding one of Tales
of Harry Potter. Everything is just too impossibly grand.
The scale of vista, precarious position of the Lodge overhanging
the precipice, and centuries old fig trees that lie gnarled
& twisted overlooking the chasm below. It leaves one nothing
short of breathless. It's inhabited by a stupendous number
flora & fauna that invite one to be as one: with nature.
This area boasts no less than 453 species of birds, 32 greater
& lesser mammals & 2,100 plants.
Morning Song, Evening Light
Mornings
are a cacophony of bird calls that herald dawn until mid-morning
when they grow quiet. That is, until dusk brings breathtaking
washes of sunset painted perfectly by the Almighty's hand.
At that time, it's as if on the prompt of an maestro conductor,
he brings birds to resume singing as if only after a pause.
They and sing, and sing their farewell to the day: until the
lonely Nightjar calls, " Wheeet, wheet Woorrrrrrrrrr.
Wheeet, wheet Woorrrrrrrrrr. When night falls completely,
the starlit heavens emerge un-shrouded. And even he, the lonely
Nightjar grows quiet, leaving as if he were the only bird
in the night. Close by are nests of the Brown Eagle and the
rare Tiger Falcon that lie resting in the evening as all good
birds do.
