ABSA Bank is made of many former South African banks to name a few, Volkskas & Trust Bank This group was recently acquired by Barclays Bank during 2006. Because of their affiliation with Barclays Capital, they have expertise in national and international banking.

Barclays Bank
Barclays is a truly international bank with specific expertise in Southern Africa. There is not a country in Southern Africa that the writer has not visited where they are not represented, including: Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique & Zimbabwe. They manage to keep their banking systems together wherever they are, despite limitations on modern communications such as ADSL and telephone connectivity. A truly enterprising organization., The writer used them to draw cash on holiday and transfer loot on business in Livingstone, Zambia, while other nets works were down for two days.Not ein these environs, some hotels do not take credit cards.

First National BankBank
A good all round business bank. Their mortgages are good. They seem to favour general home loans because their consultants don't go for the top rates as you move through the door. It is more about what they can offer you from meeting one than how much you are worth. It gives a sense of well-being. I've seen no hidden catches. dealing with them. I have three home loans with them. The are represented in South Africa & Botswana. Per usual, they have affiliates and access through international banking standards to most banks.

Mercantile Bank
One of the independents if you have an aversion to the Big Brother's running the World, Mercantile Bank offers pleasant personal service. It has limited branches available at most cities in South Africa, but is not represented in smaller business centers. Their credit & debit cards are acceptable throughout the country in all business centers; if you need to draw cash from cash machines. They are also supported by VISA, Master Card, Diners Club & American Express,so paying from any authorized Visa or Mastercard vendor is accepted. Loans rates are competitive. Mortgage loans are competitive. The writer has a credit card with them and has not experienced any difficulty using it in any business centre in Southern Africa, Europe or USA..

Rand Merchant Bank
An excellent banking organization for high net asset clieneteles. Rand Merchant bank will give mortgage loans at prime less 2.5% to certain individuals, against security of immovable assets. They have loads more to offer in respect of create financial packages. The writer has an account with them and it is run meticulously, with faultless statements delivered on time.

Reserve Bank of South Africa
The Reserve Bank of South Africa is South Africa's national bank that sets the policies of lending in South Africa. It is the lender of last resort. Commercial Banks take loans from this bank when requiring extra liquidity. The Reserve Bank sets the Repo Rate. It is not a commercial bank lending to businesses or private individuals. It is on a par with the US Treasury headed by Alan Greenspan,

Standard Bank
Standard Bank boast being the oldest banking service in Southern Africa. They are competitive and entrepreneurial. Standard bank is well represented throughout Southern Africa and like Barclays have a lot of experience in dealing in Africa.
