Cape Town Restaurant Guide

Baccini's Pizzeria -
I like Italian, sorry if you don't. They used to be the best in Johannesburg until Raymondo moved his operation to Cape Town. He is outrageously busy, so book ahead. Portions are enormous. They carry excellent wines. It's a good establishment at reasonable prices.

Blues - Camps bay -
Good food overlooking Camps Bay beach. It's a great day or night time restaurant. Watch the babes sunbathe while the cobalt blue waves break. Whether it's sunny, cold, wet or windy, it's a good place to be. They carry excellent wines. It's a genuine five star establishment.

Cape Grace Hotel - Waterfront
Café Bascule is a cigar-type bar where yuppies keep private stashes of unsual whisky is bought through the Cape Grace establishment. It has good music and is the ultimate nova baroque. Posing would-be starlets adorn imposters who impress nobody, but it is all a real giggle. Do it just for the fun of it! Drinks are outrageously expensive. Snack menu is good. I haven't eaten a full meal there, but I hear the food is excellent.

Morton's - Waterfront
A typical corporate five star drinking hole. Chickie-boos cling to their glasses while they search the meat market for eligible bachelors. The restaurant is good and enjoys a pleasant position overlooking the Waterfront's harbor.

Restaurants Hout bay - Cape Town

Hout Bay is a 30 minute drive from Cape Town. It is a sleepy hollow tucked between the Sentinel Mountain and Chapman's Peak. It's the author's favourite place to relax in Cape Town as there is plenty to do, like cruises, SCUBA diving, sailing & deep sea fishing. It's an isolated village with a stunning 1.2 km beach. Chapman's Peak drive was built by Italian prisoners of war during WW2. It is an outstanding example of Italian engineering, but how they won the World Cup Soccer we'll never know.

Chapman's Peak Hotel
Weather permitting; sit outside on the patio to soak up the rays while you imbibe your favorite beverages. Owner Mario has seen many a celebrity through his doors from three State Presidents to numerous movie stars. Everybody goes there for good food and wine, certainly not the décor. It's a bit tatty, but it has something about it that brings you back for more. Don't make a reservation by telephone, you'll wait all day for an answer. Take your chances and go there or book on line.

Dunes - Hout Bay
Likewise, if the weather is good sit outside overlooking the beach! The management are not as in your face as in other establishments, they prefer to use pretty student waitresses for their PR and they do it so well. Food is good and beverages are reasonably priced. Go there any time of day.

Fish Monger - Hout Bay
It's a fish & chip, mom & pop operation and very popular with the locals. It's more of a fast food take away joint than a restaurant and reasonably priced. The food is a "lekker" full-grease, quick bite between cruises.
