Durban

Durban, is an easy 5½ hour drive from your Johannesburg. There is a lot to do and the temperatures on average 6 degrees wramer Johannesburg, so it is an ideal weekend break away from Johannesburg's winters.
Leave work at say 15:00 and be at your hotel by 20:30 in time for dinner and a party. We recommend the Ushaka Restaurant as the start to any trip to Durban.

4 X 4 Adventures
No trip to SA is complete without doing a little off road driving. Explore the wonderful countryside and learn how to drive through the jungles of deepest, darkest Africa. There are several schools within easy reach of Durban North that will teach you to handle a vehicle off road. You can hire a 4 X 4 for the weekend. Get the most out of your African experience. Do things you would never dream of at home.

Abseiling
Abseiling is not as difficult, dangerous or physically demanding as it looks. There's nothing quite like the exhilaration of mixing dizzy heights with unusual attitudes while suspended from a nylon rope the thickness of your index finger. It's easy to learn and safe. Even if you freeze, they'll haul you up with a safety rope and you can start again until you get it right. Durban boasts some of the best abseiling instructors in South Africa. A while a short drive from the city will take you to some of the best cliffs for newbies and old-hands alike.

Boat Cruises
Durban hosts many cruise ships of all sizes and types from day charter vessels good for ten to twenty people to mega-ton vessels that cruise the world. Starlight shipping is a good operator offering weekend breakaways to Inyacha Island Mozambique, where you can spend the day scuba diving before your return to Durban. Day sailing vessels are ten a penny. A good operator is Mimi Grant, an award winning sailing champion. She sailed the world and makes her living teaching people to sail. If you want a Yatchmaster's ticket or just a day sail contact her on 082-744-1086

Action Traction Indoor Carting
Indoor carting track and amusement centre.
Open Mon - Sat 10am to late, Sun 10am - 10pm

Pulse Ranger
Here we go again Ramboes of the world unite! Pulse ranger is a safe, realistic, structured hi-tech combat team game for any number of players. It provides both a physical and mental challenge to people of all ages without any environmental mess. Pulse Ranger guns fire harmless infrared beams, which are picked up by detectors on both the helmet and guns. Do it for a laugh, just once.

Scuba Diving
If you can't get to Sodwana and you are in Durban there are plenty of operators to choose from I'll say from the start that nothing beats Sodwana for clear waters, multitudes of species of fish, but there is more to diving than fish. From Durban there are dozens of wrecks to dive and if you have two hours to drive to Protea Banks you can dive with Trevor Krull to see Raggies at Raggie Cave. He's in my mind one of the best operators. He's environmentally aware and spends load of time developing awareness among divers of the importance of sharks in the bio system. In short he puts back what he takes out. Contact Trevor on (083)-670-0081

Sea World
Durban boasts a large selection of diverse theatres, with different offerings to suit all tastes. You can quite literally take your pick, from the latest local musical to a top international stage production; from jazz café to the Philharmonic orchestra. Durban North is central to them all. For something different, why not try one of the supper theatres where entertainment and good food come rolled into one.

Ushaka Marine World
… is a mini Disney World at Durban harbor. It's a great place for family and to entertain. You can dive with Scuba into a shark tank or relax in the water park. There is a good shopping centre with loads of restaurant. There too much to write up. Go see it!

Viginia Flight School
Flying gives you the flexibility to explore destinations and business opportunities in areas not served by scheduled airlines. Flying gets you there faster and is safer than driving. Phone: 031-5632080, Fax: 031-5661945, Email: info@vfs.co.za
